BOE to Hold Friday Meeting

In an unusual move, the Board of Education will meet this Friday, September 3rd, to discuss personnel issues.  The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.

According to several former longtime BOE members, they don't recall the Board ever meeting on a Friday before.

While no agenda has been announced, speculation is that the Board could announce a new High School interim principal to replace Superintendent of Schools Jose Negron, who was appointed to that position on August 18th.  Negron has been serving in both capacities since then, with the Board facing severe criticism for the move.

An 07080 poll found that 69% of those responding thought appointing Negron to the position was a mistake.  Only 22% thought it was a "good move," and seven percent were unsure.

  1. It is time for Jose to leave town .
He comes in late and leaves early .
The man wants our money and cares nothing about our kids.
What a poor excuse for an educator.
What a lousy example he sets !
anything the BOE can do to make him go away is fine with me !!!!

  2. Interesting that they made this last minute change to the meeting. Why not stick with a date/time once it is set? Why meet on the night before a holiday weekend?

  3. For anyone who wasn't able to make it to the meeting, you missed an opportunity to wait around for over an hour while the board was in "executive session". Why not start the meeting an hour later and do that beforehand? Oh thats right, they really don't want us there in the first place.

BTW, after public comment was closed, one of our "elected" board members blamed the townspeople, the Borough Council and the Governor for them not having the money to hire back a music teacher for the grade schools. I guess she forgot that she had voted to give Cella and Guarini a raise (because she thought they deserved it) and that they found other money once they audited their books. But then again, spending money on assistant football coaches is more important that 3rd and 4th graders having music lessons.

  4. I went to that meeting. I have three children that play musical instruments. All three of my children are on Honor Roll every year or receive A's and B's. It's sad that with less than one week before school nobody knows what is going on, not even the music teachers themselves! The fact that most sitting on the BOE don't even know that the music program is both strings (orchestra) and instrumental (band)that is offered in the Elemenary schools was proof to me that they don't really even know what programs are in the schools! They knew that e-mail's went out to the parents about the music programs in 3rd and 4th being cut, so they had to expect this issue to be addressed, yet they recited a statement about how there would be some "creative scheduling" and we could contact our principals next week. Shame on the BOE for allowing it to come to this! You had all Summer to find a HS principal, you had all Summer to figure out a plan for the music program, yet you wait til 5 days before school starts to say you know nothing, not sure how or what way the music program will affect the students, and you have left the poor music teachers, whom I find to be the most DEDICATED of all the teachers in our town, lost on how to prepare for the new school year. The only BOE member I would keep is Debbie Boyle. The rest should take their creative scheduling and shove it up your @ss!

  5. Some of those BOE members have or had children in the music programs. They do know the difference between a violin and a clarinet.

How easy is it to find the right person to be the principal of the HS? you don't just grab somebody from a bag of names and say "you're it". I think it's better they take their time and get the right person for the job.

Mrs. Boyle said she'd get her hands on that email and I think she will. I think most of those BOE members are doing a good job. Just because they aren't doing what you want them to do is just too bad.

The fault behind any cuts made this year, including the music teacher sit right at the feet of the Governor and the people who voted down the budget, so don't get your panties in a twist, because that board member that said so is right!
