South Plainfield will receive $331,000 in federal funding targeted for teacher salaries according to figures released by the State Department of Education.
In August the Department applied for the federal funding, which is available to all 50 states and totals $35 billion. According to the legislation, the money must be used for teacher salaries, with the funds being used for hiring extra teachers or restoring teaching positions that have been cut.

That should mean another fourth grade teacher at Roosevelt. Right?
ReplyDeletewhy do they need another fourth grade teacher at Roosevelt?
ReplyDeleteThere are only three fourth grade teachers at Roosevelt. There are 25 kids per class. Not a great teacher/student ratio. Very bad for test scores.
ReplyDeleteI would think that 22 first graders is not a great teacher/student ratio either. I think that there should be a first grade teacher hired for Kennedy rather than a fourth grade teacher at Roosevelt. Wait to we see the first graders scores in a few years.
ReplyDeletemaybe they can put Mr. Negron as an aide in one of the over populated classrooms. I think that I heard he is going to be on the sub list.
ReplyDeleteNot sure we should bicker about what school needs a teacher. The truth is that they are going to be using most of it to pay for an interim superintendent and HS principal. I guess the Board will have to include a paragraph in the RIF letters for teachers in the Spring that says, "Sorry we had to let you go but we spent out $331,000 on interim help." The Board should be ashamed of themselves. Most, if not all, should be asked to resign since their conflicts of interest make them useless except to pull the strings behind closed doors. Negron might not have been great but this Board is a disgrace.
